Hey there, you good?
Our greatest weapon against oppression does not exist.
It’s imaginary.
The most powerful tool to disseminate freedom is the stories of those who have already fought tyranny and won.
Do you have a good imagination?
Maximum Freedom
Many stories laid the foundations for freedom projects like bitcoin and Nostr, with heroes often fighting against government overreach, economic oppression, or personal surveillance.
Utopia by Thomas More (1516) imagined an island of freedom and abundance.
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand (1957) is heralded as a libertarian masterpiece.
True Names by Vernor Vinge (1981) brought cyberspace fiction into reality.
Cryptonomicon by Neil Stephenson (1999) charted the path of cryptographically secured anonymous e-money.
A Lodging of Wayfaring Men by Paul Rosenberg (2007) fictionalised the real events of the struggle between the FBI and the freedom-seekers building an anonymous online marketplace.
Cypherpunk and libertarian fiction has come a long way from its 20th century roots. Leaders and futurologists like Lyn Alden, Cory Doctrow, and Saifedean Ammous have gravitated towards stories as their preferred method to champion freedom.
Why?
Stories help those trapped inside the system see that there is a way out.
Readers empathize with downtrodden characters who reject tyranny.
Not everyone responds to in-depth market analysis, explanations of technology, or historical diatribes.
We need people to care.
That’s why at Konsensus Network, we’re announcing that 21 Futures has become our first ever imprint.
If you’re looking for original fiction on the themes of bitcoin, self-sovereignty, privacy, and freedom, visit this week’s Maximum Freedom Resource, the 21 Futures blog.

If you’re a writer with a great freedom story, get in touch.
We’re accepting submissions for novels and short stories.
Financial Fallout is here:
WE WERE NEVER PREPARED…
In a week where the ECB announced the launch of the dystopian Digital Euro (coming in October), the chilling tag line of the book is truly apt.
21 Futures: Financial Fallout
Currencies debased.
Privacy under attack.
Cash goes underground.
The crushing weight of debt.
Welcome to a system designed to keep us poor.
The harder we work, the less we gain.
And as we struggle, the noose only tightens.
And then, when we have nothing left to lose, we turn on those who rigged the game.
We stand and fight.
These 21 stories portray unfortunate yet brilliant heroes fighting the powers that triggered financial fallout.
Money is broken, but hope is not lost.
Praise for Financial Fallout:
“There are so many little surprises in this collection of stories that I want to keep it open in front of me. Each author has some new take on something meaningful. Don't miss it!”
Paul Rosenberg, Author of A Lodging of Wayfaring Men.
“The stories collected in this volume offer a glimpse into a wide range of possible futures, each one a thought-provoking commentary on the world we live in today.”
Max Hillebrand, CEO ZkSnacks
